3-D Printed Toy
My 3-D Printed Toy:
The need of this project was to research and design a 3-D printed toy for kids between the age of 5 to 8 years using Google Sketch up. This program helps to create 3-D views of objects quite easily.
Research:
I researched toys for kids between the ages of 5 to 8 years for both genders. I found out that soft toys of animals are liked by both boys and girls. I researched animals like fish, penguins, cats, ducks etc. I thought to make a soft toy for a girl. After researching, I focused on three main toys which I thought would be best for a girl. The toys were a penguin, a fish and a duck. I made sketches of these toys in order to find out which one will look good after printing out.

Pros:
- It will be easier to find measurements due to the shape - circle.
- This toy looks like a cute playmate for children.
- This toy can be used for playing by both genders - male & female.
Cons:
- This toy doesn't fulfill any useful requirements.
- This toy doesn't help to learn or teach new abilities to kids.
Sketch 11:
Pros:
- This toy might be useful in terms of education - water animals
- This toy is small and easy to carry around without consuming much space.
Cons:
- The pointed edges of this toy might be dangerous.
- It is a very simple toy and might not be useful in attracting the attention of children.
Sketch 111:
Pros:
- This toy will easily capture the attention of kids.
- It can be used as a water toy.
Cons:
- It is a very common toy and may not sell.
- It doesn't have any special qualities or features that might make it unique.

My Chosen Sketch
Why I changed my sketch
I changed my final sketch because it was very difficult to make in Sketch up. I was not able to create the original shape despite of numerous tries. I always messed up the measurements, which in turn led to unwanted shapes. Therefore, I thought to make an easier sketch for this project. My new sketch was to make a teddy bear. The dimensions of my 3-D teddy bear are 100. 00 mm from top to bottom and 94.5 mm from left to right
Re-design
If I was given the opportunity to re-design my 3D toy, then I would like to have more fun with this project. I would like to change the appearance slightly. Adding more details on the toy would be one of my tasks. I wish we had the opportunity of choosing our own colors. This factor would help to make my toy look more pretty and attractive looking.
Reflection:
I enjoyed this project a lot. However, I also faced a lot of complications during the process work. Firstly, I wanted to make a toy penguin. However, I wasn't able to get the correct shape in Google Sketchup. Therefore, I changed my mind and made a toy that was more suitable for a software like Google Sketchup. After completing this project, I learnt different techniques of using Google Sketchup that I think will be useful for me to use in future.
